Explore some of the west’s most vibrant creative spaces during a self-guided walking trail through artist studios, galleries and maker spaces. Meet artists, see works in progress, exhibitions, demonstrations and installations, and discover the creative communities shaping Melbourne’s west.

FOOTSCRAY MAKER LAB

A co-op run makerspace supporting fabrication, craft, experimentation and hands-on creative practice within Melbourne’s west.
Street parking is available on Whitehall, Harris and Cowper Streets. with Seddon Station the closest train station.

THE COTTON MILLS STUDIOS

The Cotton Mills Studios in Footscray is a centre of creativity & innovation housing an eclectic mix of visual artists, designers, editors, foodies, animators, writers, consultants and technicians.
Parking is available on Parker Street. Footscray Station approximately a 10-minute walk away

SPACECRAFT

Spacecraft was founded by artist Stewart Russell and designer Donna O’Brien in 2000.
Since then Spacecraft Studio has been committed to creating and communicating high quality contemporary artwork and design concepts through self initiated projects and through collaborations with outstanding artists, architects and designers. Artwork and design projects created at our studio have been exhibited and acquired for collections in significant Australian and international contexts, from the Tate London to the Tiwi Islands, from Art Basel to Paris Fashion Week, from artwork plans for Japanese hotel to artist's flags at the NGV.
The studio also a short walk from public transport.

SOSU — SCHOOL OF SEWING AND UPCYCLING

At SOSU, we believe that sewing is a wonderful life skill and we want to share it with you. Learning how to alter and mend the things that you have as well as learning the skills to create your own gorgeous garments will help you to be more creative and sustainable. We offer a wide range of workshops and ongoing courses covering a great mix of beginner and skilled sewists of all ages.
Children are welcome with supervision.
The venue is wheelchair accessible and street parking is available nearby.

KINDRED STUDIOS

Kindred Studios is a multi-purpose creative hub offering a full range of creative spaces, all under one roof. Hosted tours will include a look into our private studio suites, band rehearsal rooms, coworking, workshop studios, film and photography studios, dance and yoga studio and performance spaces. Expect original projection artworks by First Nations Artists - The Dreaming Project & local artists and photographers exhibiting throughout the venue
Visitors can expect open studio viewing, exhibitions and artwork for sale. Entry is free and drop-in visitors are welcome. The venue has step-free access, wheelchair accessibility and accessible toilets.

THE ART ROOM

The Art Room is an artist-led community supporting students to develop technical skills, creative confidence and sustainable arts practices. Focused on nurturing each artist’s individual creative voice, the studio’s flexible programmes are designed around individual needs within a culture that values respect, support and rigorous creative development.
Visitors can expect open studio viewing, exhibitions and demonstrations, with artwork available for sale. Children are welcome with supervision. The venue has step-free access, wheelchair accessibility and accessible toilets. Street parking, bike parking and public transport all close by.

WINDOWBOX GALLERY

Windowbox Gallery is a rotating small exhibition space currently showing the work of Megan Evans. It will evolve into a showcase for the Project Space — Salvation Salon — a working studio and exhibition space located inside. The space will eventually host a curated programme of contemporary artists from Melbourne’s Western suburbs, alongside workshops, artist talks and creative events. Accessible directly from the footpath on Murray Street, just around the corner from the Sun Theatre.
